Walking and Other Related Issues

Objectives:

  • Understand the different phases of the gait cycle.
  • Understand the general sagittal-plane motion of the hip, ankle, and knee joints during the stance and swing phases of gait.
  • Understand the general frontal plant motion of the hip joint during the stance phase of gait.
  • Understand the general muscle actions at the hip, knee, and ankle joints during the stance and swing phases of gait.
  • Generally understand the probable causes, symptoms, and treatments related to the following impairments: 1) Trendelenburg Gait, 2) Lack of Terminal Knee Extension, 3) Lack of Dorsi- and Plantar-flexion, and 4) Over-pronation.
